Define the hole before choosing the drive

Record the required diameter and depth, soil and rock conditions, and the space available to keep the auger aligned. Select bits and teeth intended for that material. Treat extensions as part of the complete assembly: they change handling and extraction space, so a deeper advertised capability does not guarantee access on a particular site.

Confirm the hydraulic and mechanical combination

Compare the auger drive’s permitted flow and pressure with the installed carrier circuit. Identify the drive shaft, bit connection and mounting arrangement rather than assuming similarly sized components interchange. Confirm control direction and hose routing through the expected movement using the manufacturer’s instructions.

Inspect the expensive wear points

Inspect teeth, pilot, flights, shaft connection, mounting pins and hose condition. Check gearbox leakage and ask for service history. Arrange a suitable demonstration with the correct bit and carrier so vibration, alignment and operation can be evaluated together. Price replacement teeth and worn connections separately from the drive.
