Choosing Equipment for Bulk Earthmoving and Hauling

Match excavation, loading, haulage and placement as a cycle. The largest truck or scraper is not automatically the most useful machine for the site.

Describe the material movement

Record material information, source and destination, haul distance, grades, road support, passing/turning areas and placement requirements. Obtain the project operating and haul-road requirements before matching equipment. Loose volume and mass need an explicit basis when comparing bodies, bowls and payloads.

Compare complete loading methods

A loader/excavator and truck system differs from an open-bowl or elevating scraper sequence. Include any loading support, road maintenance and placement machine. For the 623, unresolved width/height conflicts remain visible; they cannot be replaced with the 621 dimensions for convenience.

Start at the receiving area

A tipper and an ejector-body truck have different discharge equipment and envelopes. The 730 EJ comparison should include receiving conditions and the manufacturer-approved unloading procedure. An ejector does not remove the need for site-specific stability and operating planning.

Model the cycle and ready-to-work cost

Separate loading, travel, discharge, return and waiting using supported assumptions. Inspect bodies/bowls, discharge mechanisms, articulation, brakes and tires, and price repairs needed for equivalent readiness. Compare the whole fleet and mobilization package without assigning a generic output or cost per moved unit.
