Vermeer RTX450 vs T655III: utility trenching or pipeline-scale package

A task-scale comparison that keeps tractor, chain-trencher and rockwheel measurements separate.

Define the trench before the machine

Write the trench width, depth, length, ground conditions and access constraints. The RTX450 reference uses the TR455 chain attachment; the T655III supports larger chain and rockwheel arrangements. Confirm the attachment and tooling with the manufacturer rather than selecting from carrier power alone.

Do not add partial length figures

The RTX450 basic-tractor length and TR455 attachment length are not an end-to-end drawing and cannot simply be added. The T655III general transport range belongs to its chain package, while the decorative illustration shows a rockwheel. Obtain the exact transport arrangement for the proposed attachment.

Compare the complete installation job

Include utility locating, excavation support, spoil handling, installation, backfill and surface restoration in the work brief. Inspect chain, boom, sprockets or rockwheel tooling as applicable. These pages support equipment selection; qualified project planning must determine the excavation method and operating procedure.

Questions that decide the shortlist

  • Which attachment can meet the required trench geometry?
  • Is a complete configured transport drawing available?
  • What spoil-handling and restoration equipment accompanies the trencher?
